Any dental product with alcohol in it is bad news. Read labels carefully.

The best toothpaste or mouthwash available in stores is Biotene. Dentek also makes a good mouthwash. Whitening floss with fluoride is available–but for whitening, its effectiveness is obviously severely limited.

Strips don’t taste bad to me. But they only whiten the teeth that are seen when you smile slightly.

Also, any kind of bleaching will not whiten anything but a natural tooth. Dental restorations can only be whitened by replacing them. (Refer to prices above.)

Ask your dentist if s/he has any financial interest in the product(s) s/he recommends.

Visit a *good* dentist who accepts public assistance (welfare) patients. (They are *very* hard to find.) Dentists *lose* money on these patients. The paperwork is a nightmare.

So a *good* dentist who accepts these patients is usually more concerned with providing care than with collecting dollars. Logic places most of these providers in affluent areas.

PS If you have any mercury (metal/amalgam) fillings in your mouth–get the poison replaced with composite bonding. (*Relatively* inexpensive.)
